The Jets’ Mawae showed how valuable (and tough) he was in the early part of the 2004 season.

When a broken bone in his right hand caused him trouble snapping the ball, the Jets decided to keep Mawae in the starting lineup — wrapping his injured right hand in a protective cast and letting him snap left-handed.

Jets QB Chad Pennington, would rather take off-handed snaps from Mawae than normal-handed snaps from anyone else on New York’s roster. Mawae was still a force during the injury, even though he was blocking with only one hand.
